Liège on display!
- 1 day
DescriptionSet off on a day’s discovery of Liège, its culture and exceptional heritage via Guillemins Station, the museums of La Boverie and Walloon Life, or the Trésor de Liège
This day’s excursion has been designed especially for groups who travel by train (or bus) who want greater independence on their visit while benefiting from the advice, recommendations and anecdotes of a professional guide.
You’ll start your excursion in the splendid setting of the modern and futuristic Liège-Guillemins TGV station. This masterful structure with grandiose architecture was designed by the famous Catalan architect Santiago Calatrava. With its glass and metal vaulted ceiling, this icon of the city attracts myriad tourists and photographers, making it the most photographed monument in Liège.
In this same station, don’t miss the current exhibition ‘Da Vinci, the Artist, the Engineer, the Gourmet’ which invites you to go back in time to discover a man seeking out the secret laws of nature and to gain a better understanding of the undeniable mark he has left on History nearly 500 years after his death. Or choose the exhibition open until 28 April at La Boverie museum, ‘Bill Viola, Sculptor of Time’. At this event you will discover this major personality of contemporary art, who is considered to be one of the pioneers of the video art medium.
Also note that for the 100th anniversary of surrealism, La Boverie museum is offering a new exhibition, from 4 October dedicated to Paul Delvaux, a major representative of Belgian painting in the 20th century.
After strolling through La Boverie park and enjoying a pleasant ‘lunch’, you’ll then regain the city centre by climbing aboard the River Shuttle. You will be offered two new options. Depending on what you feel like, you’ll have a choice to either discover the collections of the Museum of Walloon Life or dive into the history of the old Principality with the Trésor de Liège where there are no fewer than 200 works of art on display.
To end the day, before taking the train at Liège-Saint-Lambert station, savour a real Liège waffle.
Duration: One day.
