This unique interpretation centre immerses visitors in the history of the wool industry in Verviers. An authentic interpretation centre for local heritage, the site enables visitors to discover the technical, social, economic and human aspects of the wool industry. Through its permanent re-enactment trail, ‘From Thread to Fashion’, visitors are invited to discover the various stages in the manufacture of woollen cloth.
The wool trail takes you into immersive three-dimensional spaces where, equipped with an audioguide (optional), you can experience the atmosphere of the golden age of the wool industry and admire an impressive collection of machine tools that bear witness to Verviers’s rich industrial past. Then continue your visit via the fashion trail, where costumes, cartoons and films retrace the major steps in its development.
The Tourist Centre, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010, is located in the heart of the former Thier factory, a neo-classical building dating from the early 19th century. Completely renovated and accessible to all, this place steeped in history also hosts temporary exhibitions, often linked to the themes of wool and fashion, and offers free tours of the Salon de Thier.
