A listed part of Wallonia’s Outstanding Heritage

Visit the Citadel of Namur, one of the largest strongholds in Europe. Anchored on a rocky spur within a green space, this exceptional heritage site offers spectacular views of the city and illustrates centuries of occupation and military architecture.

The residence of the Counts of Namur in the Middle Ages and later transformed into a holiday resort by King Leopold II, today it is one of the most visited tourist sites in Belgium and can be discovered via guided tours and walks.

In particular, you can discover its extensive underground network with its 500 meters of restored galleries. An immersive visit to the heart of the Citadel highlights the historical aspect and helps you to become more aware of the work done here. The guide’s explanations are supplemented by 3D animations, projections, and sound effects.

Located in the former Terra Nova barracks, the Visitor Center is an essential stop before storming the fortified area. You will discover two thousand years of urban and military history, which will be presented through the history of Namur and its citadel, through dynamic and educational staging.
