Blegny-Mine
A UNESCO World Heritage Site
Between Liège and Maastricht, in the heart of the verdant Pays de Herve, the authentic coal mining of Blegny-Mine lies in wait. This exceptional site is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact, it is one of four authentic coal mines in Europe whose underground galleries are accessible to visitors via the original shafts.
Discover the secrets of this veritable gem of Walloon industrial heritage in a unique manner. Start the tour by watching a film, which recounts the fabulous history of the “black stone” from 300 million years ago to the present day.
Then put your jacket on, adjust your helmet, and head down the mine shaft to the underground galleries, which are located between 30 and 60 meters below ground.
During your journey, you will be able to attend demonstrations about the use of the machines and the washing and coal-sorting facilities.
