Caves of Remouchamps
Europe’s longest subterranean waterway for tourists
A natural phenomenon shaped over the centuries, the Remouchamps cave is a flagship activity in the Ardennes. Over 75 minutes, travel to the center of the Earth in a magical and mysterious universe.
The visit will start with a walk of over one kilometer through a magical setting. Crossing spectacular galleries, you will discover stalagmites and stalactites before arriving in the first hall, which was inhabited 8,000 years ago by Paleolithic hunters. The discovery will continue through the old culverts, before arriving at the cathedral’s great hall. Discovered in 1912, this 40-meter high hall could easily house a 12-story building.
If the “outbound” journey, which is done on foot, is already impressive, it is nothing compared to the return, which takes place by boat. Embark on the meanders of the Rubicon, the longest underground navigation in Europe. You will be charmed by this return by boat along the river, which runs through the lower floor of the cave over a distance of 700 m.
Visited since 1828, the cave is popular today thanks to its magnificent lighting, which has been completely renewed.
