Exhibition "Martin Paar - Parathon"
A large exhibition of more than 400 photographs covering 14 themes
From 24 November 2023 to 19 May 2024, Stavelot Abbey is delighted to host a new edition of Parrathon: a well-known exhibition launched in the ’70s-’80s. The photographer Martin Parr, a world-renowned member of the agency Magnum Photos, takes shots that question society with irony and good humour. He has become a model for the young generation of photographers through his approach, style and choice of themes.
Martin Parr dissects our society in a search for meaning and depicts many themes such as class struggle, over-consumption, the holidays and mass tourism. Through his lens, the individual details become sublime, comical or touching. His watchwords are irony, self-deprecation, kitsch, good humour and of course British humour!
Parrathon is a large exhibition of more than 400 photographs covering 14 themes. Your journey will start with his first black & white series from the ’70s-’80s and finish with the most recent ones after the famous colour series, The Last Resort (1983-85) from which he made his name.
