900 years of history sampled with wisdom

Floreffe abbey is a magnificent cultural discovery that awaits you at the gateway to Condroz. Founded in 1121 by Saint Norbert of the Order of Premonstratensians, this imposing building, which pays tribute to 9 centuries of architecture, is located on a promontory which dominates the Sambre valley.

Several sections are accessible during the one-hour guided tour, which allows you to get to know its history. Admire the charming courtyard, the 100-meter-long abbey church, and its superb baroque stalls, as well as an attractive museum set in the medieval annexes of the abbey church. A video montage recounts the story of this abbey, which was one of the most powerful of our country.

You will also find the oldest industrial building in the Province of Namur with the mill-brewery of 1250. You can taste the abbey’s various products, including beer, cheese, or bread. An artisanal shop will allow you to discover the many facets of various regional crafts.
