Reinhardstein Castle
Unique, medieval, and mysterious
Dominating the Warche from the heights of its rock, this superb castle (fortified castle) nestled within the eastern cantons and the High Fens is sure to have an impact, thanks to its mysterious side and its specific style.
Dating back to the 14th century and having belonged to many owners, it was abandoned for nearly 150 years before experiencing an extraordinary second wind after a historian fell in love with it in 1965. This Brussels professor, who was passionate about history, restored it in just 18 months with the help of a few enthusiasts and the know-how of local craftsmen. Completely restored with the original materials, it has regained its former appearance and has become one of the most iconic sites of this region.
Within this impressive site, you can admire armor, paintings, chests, and tapestries from yesteryear. Discover or rediscover the entire building–the knights' hall, guard room, chapel, apartments, and keep—during a guided tour lasting around an hour.
