Cultural immersion combined with an explosion of flavours
- 5 days
- 4 nights
DescriptionWith tastings of local produce, visits to iconic heritage sites, and world-famous cities – this tour has it all!
From Liège province to Luxembourg province, via Namur province, this particularly comprehensive 5-day, 4-night stay will introduce you to all the treasures of the Namur and Dinant regions. Renowned for their local produce and flavours, including beer, chocolate and wine, these two regions are sure to delight the most discerning of gourmets. But that’s not all! Namur and Dinant are also particularly well-known for their period buildings, such as citadels and castles, which are real traces of the past.
The guide will meet you in the early afternoon to begin the journey with your group, club or association. Before setting off for Namur province, depending on where you start, you will either visit Jehay Castle, a remarkable 16th-century building listed as Exceptional Heritage of Wallonia, or Belgian Owl Distillery, the producer that was voted Europe’s best whisky in 2011 and 2015.
After a night in a hotel close to Namur or Dinant, to which you will return on the following three evenings, you will head to Floreffe Abbey, where a magnificent cultural discovery awaits you in this grandiose building that has seen nine centuries of architecture. You will then head towards Namur, where you will have some free time to stroll through the streets of the city before enjoying a meal at the Grill des Tanneurs with its heartwarming cuisine. In the afternoon, you will visit the underground passages of the Namur Citadel, an exceptional heritage site with spectacular views over the city, and the Guy Delforge perfume factory, where the various stages in fragrance manufacture will be explained to you.
The third day will begin with the outstanding heritage site of Maredsous Abbey, often referred to as one of the prettiest in the country. This place dedicated to spirituality will delight beer and cheese lovers, especially as you’ll even be staying for lunch. You’ll need it to be raring to discover Dinant, the superb town famous as being the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone. First, you’ll enjoy it on your own and then on a cruise along the Meuse taking you to Anseremme and back to Dinant. It’s a different way to appreciate the town, its citadel, impressive rocks and lush greenery!
The next day, the superb Watergardens of Annevoie will be your first stop. As part of Wallonia’s Major Heritage, these gardens are the only water gardens in Belgium and are certainly among the most beautiful in Europe. At lunchtime, you can once again try out the region’s culinary specialities at Bocow or the picnic baskets at Bioul Castle. This majestic château will be the highlight of the day, with a “discovery tour” that includes a visit to the wine-making facilities and a tasting of regional wines and products.
Finally, this journey will come to an end in Samrée in Luxembourg province, in sweetness and indulgence with a gourmet exploration of the world of chocolate at Cyril Chocolaterie. Here, Yves Lemaire, an artisanal chocolatier since 1993, will welcome you and invite you to take part in his guided tours and demonstrations, which will give you a better understanding of the secrets involved in producing hand-crafted chocolate.
