A Benedictine monastery housing three museums

Did you know that one of the oldest monastic foundations in Belgium registered as major heritage in Wallonia is located in the Ardennes and, more specifically, in the province de Liège? Founded in the 7th century, Stavelot Abbey, the only tourist site with 5 suns in the province de Liège allows you to discover three permanent exhibitions.

The first is dedicated to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit will delight racing fans in particular. Located in the magnificent vaulted caves of the Abbey, the museum recounts the history of this circuit famous worldwide. Relive the great moments of the legendary Ardennes track enjoyed by Fangio, Senna, Schumacher or Hamilton by admiring the exceptional vehicles and enjoying unique video reports and unusual objects.

New: the simulator is open again! The chance to enjoy a unique experience, where you are the driver, and race around this exceptional site on either the old track (16 km) or the current track (7 km). Equipped with three Full HD screens, a force feedback wheel, and pedals with vibration feedback, this simulator will almost make you feel as though you are racing on the track itself.

The history museum of the principality of Stavelot-Malmedy tells the surprising story of a State of the Old Regime in a fun and modern way. Images and sounds, objects and works of art presented using the most recent multimedia techniques evoke this long period of more than a thousand years during which the Principality exercised its influence over a territory which went beyond Belgium’s borders.

Finally, the Guillaume Apollinaire museum evokes the stay of this poet in the Spa-Malmedy region. You will be immersed in the world of this author during an initial journey where you’ll learn more about him through his writing and the views of other artists such as Picasso, Chagall or Cocteau.

During your visit, you can also enjoy numerous temporary exhibitions organized in this exceptional venue.
