Nature in all its forms
- 1 day
DescriptionThis day’s programme will include well-known cultural sites, a discovery of nature and tasting local specialities, from Stavelot to Malmedy
This day’s excursion will take you to visit a brand-new exhibition organised in one of the cultural spots of Liège Province, enjoy exceptional panoramic views and discover Malmedy and its local produce.
Start your day at Stavelot Abbey browsing the new exhibition (open from 24 November 2023) dedicated to Martin Parr, the world-renowned photographer whose quirky style is easy to recognise. A member of the agency Magnum Photos, he takes shots that question society with irony and good humour. Parrathon is a large exhibition of more than 400 photographs covering no fewer than 14 themes.
Take advantage of your time in this superb building listed as ‘Exceptional Heritage of Wallonia’ to visit its three museums: the first traces back the history of the world-famous Spa-Francorchamps racetrack, the second approaches the history of the principality of Stavelot-Malmedy from a playful angle and the third takes you to discover Guillaume Apollinaire.
After regaining your strength with a local meal in one of the region’s pleasant restaurants, start the next stretch of your day, which will be devoted to Malmedy and the surrounding region. You will first visit the Montenauer Ham Smokehouse to see how real ham from the Ardennes is salted. Then, you will explore the warm and lively city of Malmedy, one of the tourist highlights of the Province of Liège. Finally, you will visit the Belgium Peak Beer brewery, which gives you the chance to taste a range of beers with local flavours.
You will be able to admire the stunning landscapes of the High Fens as you cross them. Allow yourself to be swept away by the vastness and beauty of this region, which spans 5,000 hectares. The High Fens are, undoubtedly, one of the most famous natural sites in Belgium.
