Liège on display!
- 1 day
DescriptionSet off on a day’s discovery of Liège, its culture and exceptional heritage via Guillemins Station, the museums of La Boverie and Walloon Life, or the Trésor de Liège
This day’s excursion has been designed especially for groups who travel by train (or bus) who want greater independence on their visit while benefiting from the advice, recommendations and anecdotes of a professional guide.
You’ll start your excursion in the splendid setting of the modern and futuristic Liège-Guillemins TGV station. This masterful structure with grandiose architecture was designed by the famous Catalan architect Santiago Calatrava. With its glass and metal vaulted ceiling, this icon of the city attracts myriad tourists and photographers, making it the most photographed monument in Liège.
Don’t miss the current exhibition dedicated to National Geographic within the station, which will be on display starting from 19 April. Two exceptional photographic exhibitions, The Greatest Wildlife Photographs and Pristine Seas: Bringing the Ocean Back, invite you to discover the beauty of the natural world and to realise how fragile it can be. Alternatively, visit La Boverie museum, which is located in a former palace built for the Liège World Expo in 1905. This unmissable cultural site in Liège presents the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts. You can admire the works of great local artists, as well as pieces by world-renowned masters, spanning from the Renaissance through the 20th century. Furthermore, from 25 April to 27 July, La Boverie museum will also be presenting an exceptional exhibition tracing 135 years of innovation and expertise from the FN Browning Group, blending industrial heritage and artistry.
After strolling through La Boverie park and enjoying a pleasant ‘lunch’, you’ll then regain the city centre by climbing aboard the River Shuttle (from April to October). You will be offered two new options. Depending on what you feel like, you’ll have a choice to either discover the collections of the Museum of Walloon Life or dive into the history of the old Principality with the Trésor de Liège where there are no fewer than 200 works of art on display.
To end the day, before taking the train at Liège-Saint-Lambert station, savour a real Liège waffle.
Duration: One day.
